In The Golden Harvest, filmmaker Alia Yunis tries to understand the profound, often troubled relationship between ancient olive trees and the people of the Mediterranean, including her own father.
The film is a complicated romance—sometimes funny, sometimes tragic—set across a region that includes some of the poorest and most conflicted areas of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It was filmed in Spain, Italy, Greece and Palestine.
Ancient olive trees hold family histories, working lives, conflict and care within one living landscape.

By travelling across different places and perspectives, the film shows how a shared tree can carry very different political, ecological and emotional histories.
